UbiStor, a vendor of IT backup and disaster recovery provider has launched MailStor. A client-controlled and remotely hosted email archival service, MailStor allows companies to archive email and instant messages.

Automated monitoring processes are possibel as well as searches for compliance violations.

UbiStor works with entities of all sizes, but specializes in providing services to the SMB market. Dan Hill, CEO, said, "Working with our clients, we felt compelled to offer a quality, affordable solution to SMBs. While most businesses back up email data, their systems may not do so real-time. SMBs are particularly challenged since their internal information technology resources are minimal."

MailStor(SM) archives incoming and outgoing email as it appears on the email server. It makes a permanent record of emails and attachments even though end-users may delete them locally. The business' authorized reviewers have instant, online access of the archived email, allowing search, review, and follow-up flagging regardless of age.

The MailStor(SM) advanced search function provides powerful capabilities that permit auditors to more easily sample email and IM communications for financial compliance. Additionally, businesses can locate and/or monitor email related to human resources/employee issues, litigation, customer service disputes, etc.

Many of the recent regulatory regimes require companies to maintain records archiving. Prominent amongst these are Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
